BEHIND THE SCENES!

Well, it's only about two years too late, but I've uploaded a gallery of behind the scenes pictures from the shoot.

Check 'em out in the images section.

And look above this window... the shop is up and running, go and buy the special edition DVD of Angry and Moist: An Undead Chronicle!

IT'S BEEN A WHILE...

...Mainly because with the film featuring such illustious composers as Richard Band, Ennio Morricone and Jerry Goldsmith on the soundtrack, all of whom were never paid a penny, there was very little that could be done with it.

But that's all set to change.

As of April 2006, the flick features an entirely original score by Damian McDonald, a local composer, screenwriting lecturer and all round good bloke. He wrote some cracking music for Leftovers: A Tale of the Killer Sandwich, so his stepping up to score Angry and Moist was both welcome and needed. I also took the opportunity to remix the sound, add a slew of sound effects and generally spruce up the proceedings.

The reason I finally got around to acquiring a composer? Well, the lovely people at Troma (creators of The Toxic Avenger, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD and Terror Firmer) contacted me with an interest to distribute the film on a shorts DVD in the near future. So keep a look out for that.

In addition to that, I'm considering setting up a shop to sell copies of the flick from this very site. On an all new special edition DVD, features include:

  • Widescreen 1.78:1 Presentation
  • 2.0 Sound
  • Behind the Scenes Footage (25 minutes)
  • Outtakes (17 minutes)
  • Split-Screen Storyboard Comparison (4 minutes)
  • Split-Screen Special Effects Comparison (15 seconds[!])
  • The Glory of Foley Featurette (4 minutes)
  • Footage from the Hyde Park Cinema Theatrical Screening in June 2004 (4 minutes)
  • Director's Production Diary
  • Cast and Crew Biographies
  • Trailer (1 minute)
  • And a very special easter egg, featuring a member of the cast in a sticky situation... (4 minutes)
  •
It's unlikely that much, if any, of these features will make it on any Troma disc, we'll just have to wait and see.

In other news, Angry and Moist is listed in the comprehensive tome, The Lurker in the Lobby: A Guide to the Cinema of H.P. Lovecraft, written by H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival founder Andrew Migliore and John Strysik.

In addition to reviews of Lovecraftian cinema, interviews with Stuart Gordon, Brian Yuzna, Dan O' Bannon, Richard Band, John Carpenter and others, the book features a list of the best shorts based on Howard's bizarre writings, amongst which Angry and Moist stands proud.

Not only that, but in another web search akin to the one before, I discovered that the film is listed on Wikipedia under Re-Animator, in the sequels section.

"Additionally, a semi-spin-off/parody of the original film has recently been made by James Raynor, a young British film-maker, entitled Angry and Moist: An Undead Chronicle. This short film follows the gory misadventures of Herbert West's hitherto unknown half-brother, Norbert Crest, played by Raynor himself (the film's tagline: Re-Animation. It runs in the family). This film is not, however, part of the official movie series."

That last sentence amuses the hell out of me, because for anyone to consider it a part of the official series is both flattering and incredibly silly on their part.

    PIMPING: COURTESY OF MORMONS

Bored out of my gourd the other night, I did a search for my name on Google.

Lo and behold, what do I find but this...

Some fucked up shit, I'm sure you'll agree. Click here for the page itself. I also found this review of Children of the Living Dead, which mentions the e-mail director Tor Ramsey sent me and also my review at the IMDB.

    God bless the internet.

    WE'RE ON THE IMDB!!!

So far, very little in terms of cast and crew info, but that should be up in the next few week (so they tell me).
Be sure to drop by and start a discussion or, if you've seen the flick at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, review or rate it! C'mon, we need your support!!

ANGRY AND MOIST AT THE H.P. LOVECRAFT FILM FESTIVAL
Well, contrary to previous reports, Angry and Moist was eventually shown at the premiere festival for the weird and wonderful world of H.P. Lovecraft. Initially, I was quite apprehensive about this, since the flick doesn't exactly follow Lovecraft's prose to the letter, but by all accounts (well, two), it was very well received!
Here's some comments I got from Christian Matzke, creator of the classy Re-Animator adaptation An Imperfect Solution...

    "Hey James,

it's Christian "An Imperfect Solution" Matzke over in the U.S. I just saw your film last weekend at the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival. It played to a full house and man did it get a reaction! The jokes were a hit and the gore --good god damn!!-- got people up out of their seats. When you get splashed with blood I thought the lady behind me was going to puke on me! Great job all around. You more than captured the spirit of the films, you created something unique as well. I liked the afro-zombie, he looked like he's just walked off the 70's Dawn of the Dead set!

Oh, and the scene were the hot girl says "I did it with a dog once" had me laughing for the next three hours. I'd be talking to someone who'd just lost a loved one or what ever and burst out laughing because of that damn line (and your spit-take)!

Anyway, I know you put a lot of work into the film and I wanted to let you know it was appreciated at the Festival.

    Cheers!"

I also received great compliments from Craig Mullins, helmer of unfilmable.com...

    "James,

Saw Angry and Moist at the Lovecraft Film Festival, and I thought it was
freaking great! What a fun movie. I really enjoyed where you went with the
story, and the effects were great! The crowd seemed to really be into it as
    well...

Can't wait to see it again!"

All in all, not too shabby! If anyone else was present at the festival and has comments, good or bad, please e-mail them to me.
Special thanks has to go to Andrew Migliore for showing the film in the first place, even though it wasn't interlaced properly for NTSC... I am truly grateful to him.

    ANGRY AND MOIST PREMIERE
    Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

This date saw the big screen premiere (and most likely, swansong) of Angry and Moist: An Undead Chronicle. To a captive audience of students, cinema employees and tutor types from college and universities, the film went down a treat. Some of the references were lost on viewers who'd clearly never heard of Dr. Hill, Re-Animator or indeed, zombies. However, it was a joy for me to watch the flick on the same screen where I saw Beyond Re-Animator some eight months earlier, at 6am after a whole night of undead based shenanigans during the Leeds Film Festival.
